4Frontiers is pursuing funding for a number of entertainment and education efforts, including those listed below:
Lure of the Red Planet - Space Science Education Package - Testing & Distribution
- Space Florida proposal
- Lead organization: 4Frontiers Corporation
- 4Frontiers is seeking funding from Space Florida to perform pilot testing of the education
package in four Florida counties. Information and feedback gained from this testing will be
incorporated into the package, and a report documenting the pilot findings will be generated
and submitted to Space Florida. DVD copies of the package will then be distributed to all
5th, 6th and 7th grade science teachers in the state.
Status: Proposal submitted on 9/30/2008. Awaiting response.
Outreach Component of Space Agriculture Grant
- NASA proposal
- Lead organization: University of Florida, Gainesville, FL
- University of Florida Agricultural & Biological Engineering Department has partnered
with 4Frontiers on a proposed grant to perform agricultural research for NASA.
4Frontiers proposed scope includes creating an interactive webpage module for
Crazy4Mars.com where people can explore a Mars greenhouse, learn about the
challenges faced in putting one together, and see what research is being done by UF to
address those challenges. Additionally, 4Frontiers would expand their educator page
to include new materials related to space agriculture and would present the website
module and these materials to interested educators at the annual Florida Association
of Science Teachers (FAST) and Florida Academy of Science (FAS) conferences.
- 4Frontiers provided University of Florida a proposal including scope of services and budget
information.
- University of Florida submitted their proposal in late September 2008.
Status: Proposal submitted. Awaiting response.
Video Segments & Webpages to Support Space Settlement Design Competitions
- National Science Foundation (NSF) ITEST proposal
- Lead organization: San Jacinto College, Houston, TX
- San Jacinto College has partnered with 4Frontiers on a proposed grant to develop training
videos and interactive websites for a significant expansion of the existing, Houston-based,
high school Space Settlement Design Competitions. 4Frontiers proposed scope includes the
creation of twenty two (22) custom, twenty-minute videos plus two interactive websites.
- 4Frontiers provided San Jacinto College a detailed proposal covering 4Frontiers scope.
- San Jacinto College submitted its proposal to the NSF in April, 2008.
- Status: NSF requested several changes to the proposal and requested that it be
resubmitted at the next opportunity.
MarsBase1 Reality TV Show
- 4Frontiers is developing a reality TV show where teams of contestants live in simulated
Mars habitats and experience the challenges faced by the first permanent Mars settlers.
